Abstract

A survey of chromosomes in natural populations of Dysdercus koenigi (cotton insect), Tylotropidus voricornis, Poecelocerus picta (grass hoppers), Passer domesticus (house sparrow), Bandicoota bengalensis (Bandicoot, big field rat) and Cannis familiaris (dog) has been undertaken with a view to investigate inherent and operative genetic mechanisms among species. While translocations are common in Poecelocerus picta, inversion in Tylotropidus the chromosomes of Dysdereus and Cannis do not show any visible chromosomal aberrations. A few chromosomal aberrations have been observed in Passer and Bandicoota chromosomes.

Despite the widest adaptability the dog Cannis familiaris, interestingly exhibits stable karyotype.
